Romans 8:32
One of my favorite songs is 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) sung by Matt Redman. It truly is and there are 10,000 reasons and more for my heart to find reason for praise to my God.
The bridge of this song goes like this…
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
As I reflect on these words that was first made famous by Job in the midst of his suffering, I am reminded of two realities:
First, that I too will be able to sing these words, if and when I am called by God to suffer in some measure, the loss of something or someone precious. I have to be honest, I find it difficult today. May His strength and grace sustain me to be faithful on that day.
Second, is the truth that overwhelms me with joy. The truth that God did not take away when it came to the most precious gift I’ve received in the person of Jesus Christ.
In fact, Romans 8:32 tells us, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
He gave without taking away, and He gave more than I deserve (Isaiah 53:7-9).
He gave not impulsively which usually leads to regret, but that He gave joyfully in a predetermined way.
He gave and not so that He will take it away. He has given forever staking His character with an oath.
That is what the Lord’s Supper reminds me of — He gave,
You give and give alway’
You give and give alway’
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be your Name.
