Proverbs 7.
The adulterous woman in Proverbs 7 is a personification of temptation, folly, and sin.
(The picture of sin as a woman is used because this chapter continues a father’s instruction to his son. The father is preparing his son to be a wise king. He is passing on wisdom so that when the son’s time comes to lead, he will live wisely and govern wisely.
For us today, this warning is not limited to sons. It applies equally to both sons and daughters. The lesson reaches beyond sexual temptation and warns against any area of life where sin quietly waits to deceive, entice, and destroy.).
This adulterous woman is a master deceiver. She knows how to use smooth words to make a bad deal look like a good one.
Here, let me explain, my son, my daughter.
Your true value is 100. However, she convinces you that your value is only 1. “What’s the difference?” she whispers. “You’re worth almost nothing anyway.”
At the same time, she inflates her own value. Though she is really zero, she makes herself appear to be a fifty.
Now, because you have been persuaded that you are worth only 1, her offer seems generous. It looks like a huge gain. You think you are getting something valuable.
But it is all a lie.
In reality, you have traded away something worth 100 for something valued at nothing.
Once you are trapped, you discover too late that you have been played. By then, you’ve become another trophy on her wall. One more victim in a long collection of people who were once wise, strong, and full of promise, but were led astray by her flattering words (Proverbs 7:26-27).
Chapter seven of the book of Proverbs warns, sin is no bargain. Therefore, flee seek Wisdom. For details, read on. Don’t stop at chapter 7, read chapter 8. Don’t stop for sin that seduces, though dressed enticingly and speaks convincingly.
Listen to wisdom cry out for you to listen to her!
